RE: License Renewals
On March 27, 2020, law was enacted that extends the deadline for any action a licensee is required to take to renew a license, including complete and submit continuing education, if the deadline for that action falls on any date within the period of the state of emergency that Governor DeWine declared in Executive Order 2020-01D on March 9, 2020. The new deadline for taking that action is now either 90 days after the date on which the state of emergency declared by Governor DeWine ends, or December 1, 2020, whichever date comes first. In addition, the law also extends all existing licenses that are set to expire during the period of the state of emergency declared by Governor DeWine. Under the law, these licenses will remain valid until the earlier of either 90 days after the date on which the state of emergency ends, or December 1, 2020, unless the license is revoked, suspended, or otherwise subject to discipline or limitation before then for reasons unrelated to licensee having failed to take any action required to renew the application during the state of emergency. This legislation also does not require that a sanitarian or sanitarian in training wait to renew their license.
ODH will send out renewal notices via email on June 1, 2020 to all individuals whose registrations are set to expire on July 31, 2020, even though the existing registration of any sanitarian, or sanitarian in training, whose registration is set to expire on that date will be extended as a matter of law if the state of emergency declared by Governor DeWine continues past May 2, 2020. However, no late fees will be assessed for any renewal application that is received within 90 days after the state of emergency ends, or by December 1, 2020, whichever date comes first.
